7 Creative Design Ideas For Kitchen Island Bench Seating

There’s something special about a kitchen island with bench seating. You can use it to add an air of elegance or create a cozy spot to hang out. It can even give your kitchen the feel of an intimate corner of a romantic restaurant.

An island with built-in seating pushes the ?open concept kitchen? idea to the next level. With one of these islands, your kitchen isn’t just open to the dining area. It is the dining area.

As you’ll see in this article, many of these kitchen islands provide enough seating for a large dining table. It’s much more than just a nice place to have breakfast. You can entertain the whole family in comfort.

1. Oval bench seating in kitchen island

First of all, you can see that this kitchen has a very striking design. The color palette includes shades of dark night and sunrise gold that give the space a grand atmosphere.

The bench built into the island isn’t quite semi-circular, it follows the curve of an oval instead. The designer also chose a table that goes with the island perfectly.

This is the kind of kitchen that makes guests say, ?Wow!? At the same time, a cushioned bench like this is just comfortable. You can recline and relax while you enjoy a delicious meal or even a bowl of cereal.

2. Small curved kitchen island bench

If you don’t want to go all out with your seating, you can also just use one end of your island for a small bench. In this kitchen, you can see there’s a curved bench that covers about a quarter of a circle.

Here, the teal island and bench contrast the rest of the kitchen and provide a pop of color. It really stands out from the rest of the neutral scene.

3. L-shaped bench

This island bench is in the shape of an L and gives lots of seating around a rustic wooden table. Furthermore, these homeowners are using some of the space under the bench for storage. That’s always a perk when you add extra square footage to a kitchen island.

This one doesn’t have built-in cushions, but there are still plenty of options for pillows and separate cushions. You can imagine that this kitchen is great for entertaining. Plus, a kitchen like this can also streamline mealtime. Taco night would be even easier since all the fixings are readily available. Family and guests don’t have to travel far to get seconds.

4. Straight bench along the island

The designer for this kitchen chose to build a long straight bench into the island. And it works really well with the traditional style of the kitchen.

Muted rose cushions add to the comfort of the home. Also, the lower cushion may hide a storage space the length of the bench. Kitchens like this are perfect for the chef who loves to entertain. It’s even a great layout for an informal pop-up restaurant.

5. Corner island seating

This kitchen island has bench seating on one end. The bench here follows a corner and gives just enough space for two people to sit.

Also, the designer did something different with the countertop. Instead of extending the island’s countertop material through to the bench, it stops short. The top of the bench is made from the same wood as the seats instead.

6. Booth-style bench seating

Another elegant kitchen seating idea is to use a booth design. Here, the bench is like a cozy little nook on the side of the island.

You can see that this design allows you to keep more cupboard space under the island. At the same time, the sides of the booth create an intimate feel for diners.

7. Wide U-shaped bench

This is the design you want if you have a large family or if you throw large dinner parties. This wide U-shaped bench accommodates a large dining table. Here, up to ten people can sit comfortably. And if you have kids, you can fit even more at mealtime.

Another great thing about kitchen island benches is that they become great places to just lounge on as well. They give an extra level of comfort to a room that families often use to do homework, surf the net, or just hang out.

What kind of kitchen seating will you choose?

Whether you want an intimate booth or a long bench that gives you some extra storage, it’s up to you. You can match the bench cupboards with your cabinets or you can create drama with contrasting colors. There are definitely many options for you to explore.

Of course, the seating design is just one way you can be creative with your kitchen island. With the variety of materials and finishes, one L-shaped bench doesn’t have to look like any other L-shaped bench. For more inspiration, check out our master list of best kitchen island ideas.
