There are many different ways to find cheap kitchen cabinets. Here are 3 quick ways to decipher whether the cabinets that are cheap in price are just plain cheap.
1. Are they made with plywood?
There are many cabinets out there that are made using particleboard. Plywood is much more beneficial because of the strength. Particleboard is more easily damaged. Water is also a problem when dealing with particleboard. Plywood tends to be much more water resistant. If the particleboard is exposed to water it will expand and eventually warp.
2. Are they assembled?
Some cabinets come un-assembled and are commonly referred to as RTA (Ready-To-Assemble). Always make sure the cabinets come assembled, especially if you don’t intend to build them yourself. RTA cabinets are a cheaper kitchen cabinet alternative but may take a lot longer in terms of your projects time frame.
3. Are they dove tailed?
Dovetail is a joint technique most commonly used in woodworking joinery. It’s Noted for its resistance to being pulled apart (tensile strength), the dovetail joint is commonly used to join the sides of a drawer to the front. Many cheap kitchen cabinets do not offer the dovetail option.
