How to test a kitchen cabinet sample at home
The same cabinet sample can look different standing at cabinet height, next to your countertop, and under your kitchen lights at night. Use these six tests before you decide.
- Stand it upHold it upright where your cabinets will go, at cabinet height. A sample lying flat catches the light differently.
- Morning, afternoon and nightLook at it in daylight at least twice, then again after dark with your kitchen lights on.
- Next to what's stayingSet it next to your countertop, floor, backsplash, wall paint, and appliances.
- Try it with your hardwareHold your knob or pull against it. Brass, black, and nickel each change how the same door looks.
- Step backUp close you see the finish and door profile. From across the room, you see the color the way you'll live with it every day.
- Live with itLeave your samples out for 2 or 3 days. The one you keep walking back to is usually the one.

Common questions about kitchen cabinet samples
How much are samples, and how does the credit work?
Each sample is $19.99 and ships free, with no minimum order. After you order your cabinets, email support@kitchencabinetkings.com with your sample order number and cabinet order number. We'll credit the cost of up to three samples toward your cabinet order, and the doors are yours to keep.
Will my cabinets match my sample?
Your cabinet doors will come from the same line and finish as your sample. Painted and stained wood can vary slightly from door to door, especially with natural wood, so small differences are normal.
Are your cabinet samples full-size doors or small color chips?
Our samples are full-size cabinet doors, not color chips or small cutouts. You can see the true door profile, finish, and construction, then hold the door next to the surfaces and lighting in your own kitchen.
How fast do samples ship, and is shipping free?
All kitchen cabinet samples ship free. Most arrive within 3 to 5 business days by standard delivery. Please allow 2 to 3 weeks for American-made custom color samples.
How many cabinet samples should I order before choosing cabinets?
Start with the two or three door styles or colors you're deciding between. Comparing them side by side makes small differences easier to spot, and you can credit up to three samples toward your cabinet order.
Do I need to send my samples back?
No. The sample doors are yours to keep. After you place your cabinet order, send us both order numbers, and we'll credit up to three samples.
Are samples available for RTA, pre-assembled, and frameless cabinets?
Yes, but availability varies by door style. Some styles are offered RTA only, some assembled only, and some in both. We also carry frameless cabinet samples. Check the availability and shipping notes on each sample before ordering.
Do you have a showroom where I can see cabinets in person?
Kitchen Cabinet Kings is an online-only retailer, so we don't have a physical showroom. Our full-size door samples let you compare the profile, finish and construction in your own home. If you need help with the layout, an NKBA-certified designer can create a free 3D kitchen design remotely.
