Kitchen Cabinet Kings Supports Peg’s Cure COVID-19 Relief In NYC This May

by Andrew Saladino
May 13, 2020

COVID-19 has hit everyone. At Kitchen Cabinet Kings, we know how lucky we are to have a business that is still open. For the month of May, we’re giving a portion of all sales to Peg’s Cure, an NYC COVID-19 emergency relief fund.

What Is Peg’s Cure?

The Peg’s Cure fund is part of the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City. It was set up in memory of Peg Broadbent, the former CFO of Jefferies Group LLC who passed away from coronavirus complications on March 29, 2020.

He was a pillar in the financial community. In his memory, Peg’s Cure will supply personal protective equipment (PPE) and other needed supplies to medical professionals working on the front lines in New York City. There is still a huge need for PPE to help hospital workers stay safe.

Why It’s Important

While it’s important for everyone to use masks when outside or running necessary errands, healthcare personnel are working in dangerous environments around the clock.

The CDC sets guidelines for healthcare personnel to stay safe, which includes an array of PPE to minimize contact with pathogens. However, they still have to treat COVID-19 patients even if they can’t get PPE.

Without enough PPE, healthcare personnel are forced to reuse the materials they have or to source their own. PPE on the open market can also be counterfeit, which presents another problem.

Here are some PPE and medical items that NYC hospitals need right now:

  • Surgical masks
  • Respirators
  • Gloves
  • Gowns
  • Thermometers
  • Eye protection
  • Pulse oximeters

Disposable respirators aren’t designed for more than one use, but many personnel have been using the same ones for weeks. People are even experimenting with ways to decontaminate used masks by using microwaves or ovens at home.

Having these simple items quite literally means the difference between life and death for these heroes. We are basically living in a wartime environment, and hospital workers are our soldiers in the trenches. Any supply of PPE helps.

Do I Have To Do Anything Special?

No. Just by shopping at Kitchen Cabinet Kings in May, a portion of the money you spend will go directly to Peg’s Cure. You don’t have to do anything special to make sure a portion gets donated.

How To Donate To The Cause

If you would like to donate directly to Peg’s Cure, you can visit the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City and follow the instructions. You can make an online donation or donate by check or wire.

Also, if you have extra unused PPE supplies, you can donate it to PPE 2 NYC, a resource set up by medical students in the city. You can drop off supplies at a handful of sites around Manhattan, schedule a pickup, or ship items to a central location.

Keep it up!

While the curve in NYC seems to be flattening, that doesn’t mean it’s time to go out and have a picnic to celebrate. We need to be stronger than ever right now.

Over the coming weeks, let’s diminish that curve even further. We’ve all worked hard to minimize the impact in our community as best we can. Let’s keep it going and help support the ones who are working on the front lines.
