A 10x10 layout is the standard kitchen size used across the remodeling industry to quickly estimate the cost of filling an L-shaped 10x10 layout with RTA or assembled cabinets. While most kitchens aren't exactly 10x10, it's a great starting point for planning your budget.

Our 10x10 item list includes 10 cabinets and two accessories without any moldings or add-ons, so you can get a basic idea of the cabinet cost for your space.

10x10 Kitchen Cabinet Prices

We offer four types of kitchen cabinets: ready-to-assemble, pre-assembled, America-made, and frameless. Each has its own unique qualities, which are reflected in the average cost.

  • Ready-to-assemble (RTA) cabinets: RTA cabinets are our cheapest cabinet option, averaging about $2,399 for a standard 10x10 kitchen. While they're built with the same quality materials as our pre-assembled cabinets, these cabinets are shipped disassembled in flat packs. Because the homeowner is responsible for assembling the cabinets, RTA cabinets are cheaper to manufacture, package, and ship.
  • Pre-assembled cabinets: Pre-assembled cabinets are slightly more expensive than RTA cabinets, coming in at around $2,779 for a 10x10 kitchen. However, these cabinets arrive assembled and ready to install as soon as they're delivered.
  • American-Made Kitchen Cabinets: Our American-made cabinet line is proudly manufactured here in the USA with state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies and generations of woodworking experience. The average price for American-made cabinets is $3,888 for a standard 10x10 layout.
  • Frameless Kitchen Cabinets: Frameless cabinets are known for their minimalist appearance and space-saving advantages. Because these cabinets lack a face frame, they're cheaper to manufacture, with an average cost of $2,415 for a 10x10 layout.

How To Plan a 10x10 Kitchen Layout

The 10x10 kitchen reigns supreme in the world of home design — it's the industry standard used by countless contractors and designers to create functional and stylish kitchens.

This guide will empower you to take advantage of this common layout, offering expert tips and tricks to maximize every inch of your 10x10 space, transforming it from a standard footprint into a kitchen that perfectly suits your needs.

1. Configure Your Cabinets

The cornerstone of any kitchen layout, especially in a compact 10x10 space, is the configuration of your cabinets. This initial step sets the stage for your workflow and defines the overall functionality of the room.

Here's what to consider when laying out your 10x10 kitchen:

  • Work triangles: Optimize the placement of your refrigerator, stove, and sink to create an efficient workflow. Aim for a compact and functional work triangle to minimize unnecessary steps while cooking.
  • Door and window placement: Ensure enough clearance for opening cabinets, drawers, and appliances without obstructing doorways or windows.
  • Appliance placement: Consider the size and functionality of your appliances when determining their location. Factor in clearance for opening doors and ensuring proper ventilation for heat-generating appliances.

Explore alternative cabinet configurations beyond the classic L shape to maximize your 10x10 space. Consider other compact kitchen layouts like:

  • Galley kitchen: Two parallel rows of cabinets and appliances face each other, ideal for narrow spaces.
  • U-shaped kitchen: Cabinets run along three walls, maximizing storage and counter space.
  • Island kitchen: A central island offers additional prep space, storage, and seating.
  • One-wall kitchen: All cabinets and appliances are placed along a single wall, suitable for very small spaces or open floor plans.

2. List Your Must-Haves

A clear understanding of your must-have features is crucial for the second step in planning your 10x10 kitchen. Do you prioritize ample storage space for dishes and cookware? Is a spacious prep area essential for your cooking style? Perhaps you dream of a built-in breakfast bar. Jotting down these needs will help tailor your layout for optimal functionality.

While maximizing storage is a priority in a compact kitchen, consider incorporating features that elevate both aesthetics and usability, like:

  • Crown molding
  • Built-in spice racks
  • Pull-out drawers
  • Lazy Susans
  • Kitchen islands
  • Floor-to-ceiling cabinets
  • Appliance garages
  • Breakfast bars or cafe seating
  • Custom range hoods

3. Choose Colors and Design Features

With your layout optimized and your must-have features identified, it's time to bring your 10x10 kitchen to life with the final design touches! This step allows you to express your personal style and create a kitchen that reflects your taste. Here's a quick checklist to guide you through this exciting final step:

  • Color scheme: Light and airy tones are ideal for maximizing the sense of space, but a darker color scheme adds depth and drama.
  • Light fixtures: Choose task lighting for food prep areas and ambient lighting for the overall space.
  • Cabinet styles and finishes: Modern, traditional, or somewhere in between? Choose between popular cabinet types and finishes to find a style that suits your design.
  • Countertops: Pick a countertop material that complements your cabinets and overall style. If you're a serious cook, a durable material like quartz or granite may be best.
  • Backsplash: Consider a statement backsplash to add personality and visual interest.
  • Flooring: Opt for durable and easy-to-clean materials like tile, concrete, or laminate.

Average Cost of a 10x10 Kitchen

While the specific cost of your kitchen remodel will depend on the materials and features you choose, expect to spend anywhere from $15,000 to $45,000 for a 10x10 kitchen. This range reflects the difference between budget-friendly options like stock cabinets and laminate countertops versus high-end selections like custom cabinetry and natural stone surfaces.

Additional factors like labor costs in your area and the complexity of layout changes can also influence the final price tag. It's always wise to factor in a buffer of 10%-20% to account for unexpected costs that may arise during the renovation process.

10x10 Kitchen Layout FAQs

What size is a 10x10 kitchen?

A 10x10 kitchen measures 10 feet across one wall of cabinets and 10 feet across a perpendicular wall of cabinets, resulting in a 100-square-foot layout.

Can you add an island in a 10x10 kitchen?

A small island can potentially work in a 10x10 kitchen, but functionality is key. Consider the walkway clearance — you'll need at least 36 inches for comfortable movement. Carefully measure your space and prioritize a layout that optimizes traffic flow.

How many cabinets are included in a 10x10 kitchen?

Our standard 10x10 kitchen model includes 12 cabinets; two are exactly the same size and the other 10 are of different sizes. These 12 cabinets are always the same assortment of sizes in every model, ranging in size from 36" by 30" wall cabinets, to 18" wide base cabinets.

Is a 10x10 kitchen small?

A 10x10 kitchen can feel small, especially if you crave a lot of counter space or have a large family. However, it's actually quite common and can be perfectly functional with smart planning. By optimizing your layout and choosing space-saving features, you can create a well-equipped and stylish kitchen in this footprint.
