Accessibility
Everyone should be able to browse cabinets, plan a kitchen and place an order on our website. That includes customers who use a screen reader, keyboard, screen magnification or voice control.
Our accessibility standard
We design and test our website against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). We also follow WCAG 2.2 where it applies.
How we make the site easier to use
- Keyboard access. You can use pages, menus, filters, product options and pop-ups with a keyboard alone. A clear outline shows which item is in focus.
- Skip link. Every page starts with a "Skip to main content" link, so keyboard and screen reader users can go straight to the main content.
- Image descriptions. Product, gallery and article images have text descriptions. Decorative images are hidden from screen readers so they don't get in the way.
- Named controls. Buttons, links, icons and form fields have names and labels that screen readers announce.
- Pop-ups and dialogs. When a window opens, such as an add-to-cart confirmation, focus moves into it and returns to where you were when it closes. You can also close it with the Escape key.
- Readable text. We check text and important labels for enough contrast against their background.
- Wide tables. Comparison tables that scroll sideways on phones can be reached and scrolled with a keyboard.
- Testing. We use automated accessibility tools and test by hand with a keyboard at both desktop and phone sizes. That testing covers our store, blog and cabinet glossary.
We keep checking
We review new pages and features for accessibility before they go live, then retest the website regularly as it changes.
