Announcing the Winner of the 2019 Kitchen Cabinet Kings Entrepreneur Scholarship

We’re pleased to announce Katie Kjar from LDS Business College as the winner of the 2019 Kitchen Cabinet Kings Entrepreneurship Scholarship.

Each year, Kitchen Cabinet Kings awards a $5,000 scholarship to a college student who is passionate about entrepreneurship. To apply, students explain how they would solve a problem or take advantage of an opportunity in the market. The writing prompt for this year was:

“What new opportunities can entrepreneurs take advantage of with the ongoing legalization of gambling across the United States?”

We received many inspiring entries and settling on a winner wasn’t easy. Ultimately, we found Katie’s essay to be insightful and thought-provoking. Here’s an excerpt:

“The gambling rush is the new-age Gold Rush. . . . Similar to the California Gold rush however, opportunities for success may not lie only in the gold, but also in those supporting the gold Miners. This would include the general stores selling mining supplies or local banks offering loans to the flocking gold miners. This is the secret. If we glean wisely from the Gold rush, the actual gambling bets will be sizable, but more importantly, so will the need for all the other aspects of the growing gambling market.”

Katie goes on to describe an app that could take advantage of this by bringing together fans, vendors, and sports bars like a one-stop-shop of sports betting. She presents a business idea to capitalize on a trend in the marketplace while spreading out benefits for multiple users and companies. That’s the type of thinking the world needs.

We’re happy to support entrepreneurs like Katie who work to solve problems in creative ways. Even crowded markets can make room for people who think of things differently.

Kitchen Cabinet Kings itself started as an idea in two entrepreneurs’ heads. The dream was to disrupt the cabinet industry by giving people an easy and affordable way to buy kitchen cabinets online. Today, we’re fortunate to have thousands of customers across the country.

The rewards for coming up with an innovative idea or solution can be great, but not every entrepreneur gets to see their vision come to life. We created this scholarship program to give young entrepreneurs a bit of a break on the rising cost of education while they focus on creating the businesses of tomorrow.
