Don’t Let Style OverLOOK Functionality

Functional Kitchen DesignWhen you are clipping and cutting pictures out of your favorite magazine or scanning home improvement networks for the next movement in kitchen design, functionality of your cabinetry becomes an afterthought. You want your kitchen to embody your sense of style and emit a certain emotion to anyone who walks in the room. You spend countless hours debating over raised panel or slab door styles, but the truth is, functionality of your kitchen cabinets is just as important as the design.

Granted you will not be able to see the hidden add ins that will make your time in the kitchen easier, but that does not mean they should be over looked. There are endless options of gadgets and accessories one can incorporate into their cabinets, but there are a few staple pieces that will have you forgetting about stained versus painted cabinetry for awhile.

Some of the must haves in your kitchen to ensure an easy, accessible, and clutter free space are: deep, pot and pan friendly, base drawers; roll out trays; built in, roll out, trash receptacle; soft closing doors and drawers; and spice racks.

You should design your kitchen in a fashion that represents your taste, but you should also plan the layout with kitchen cabinets that have practical usage in mind.

Ikea has a wonderful line of small room designs that you can get for free at their stores. FYI!
