What is a Muntin?

MuntinA muntin is a strip of wood or metal that supports the panes of glass in a window or door. Muntin strips may create a grid, or they may have a latticework appearance.

A muntin is the strip of wood or metal that offers support to panes of glass. They were initially used in the past when manufacturers needed to use several smaller panes to create a large window. The strips were installed to provide stability and support to make windows and doors safer. However, muntin strips are now used mainly for their aesthetic appeal. Muntin strips are available in different lengths and widths to better match the varieties of doors and windows. The glass may be divided into squares, but the strips may also divide the panes into diamonds or other patterns. A muntin strip may appear in cabinet doors when glass is being used, which can add an elegant touch to a modern kitchen.
